Cover letter

I am a recent graduate from the University of Edinburgh with a 2:1 MA Hons in
Arabic and French. I am writing to apply for an internship in your translation
department. The puzzle of
languages has fascinated me since a young age and I would relish the
opportunity to develop my linguistic skills in a professional environment which will help me towards my goal of becoming a translator.

My degree required a great degree of flexibility and that
is something which I believe I can bring to this role. Moreover having juggled the commitments of full time student
and aspiring athlete during my studies, I am highly disciplined and accustomed
to handling multiple tasks. I enjoy variety in my work as it constantly
presents me with new challenges.

As a language student, I have been exposed to a
wide variety of literary, journalistic and technical texts for translation
purposes. I also am well versed in editorial work having served as assistant
editor of my school newspaper. More recently, I have used my language skills to help foreign students
at my university improve their idiomatic English and offered a correction and
proofreading service for exchange students needing help with essay writing. Thanks to this experience I have developed an attention to
detail which I believe is essential for translation.

In addition to this I have several years of coaching experience in judo which has allowed me to develop my communication skills. As women's captain of my university's judo team I worked with members of the committee to pursue the common goal of improving and developing our club. I contributed to this effort by offering my services as a coach and by making use of social media platforms, video editing software and relationships with other sports teams to help promote the club.

CV

Personal Profile

A highly driven and creative individual who
thrives on new experiences and opportunities.

Multiple national medallist and former
member of the British Judo Squad, I have represented my country at a number of
international tournaments including the Cadet European and World Championships.
My sport has taught me that achievement only comes through dedication and
effort, and that in judo as much as in life, respect for one’s colleagues and
the willingness to face challenges and setbacks are an essential part of
success.
